NEET UG 2026: MCC releases Round 2 seat allotment; reporting from 12 to 18 September
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) released the Round 2 final seat allotment result for NEET UG 2026 counselling on Friday, 11 September, according to reports by Careers360 and Matrix Education. Candidates can check their allotment on the official portal, mcc.nic.in, by logging in with their registration details.
The result covers seats under the 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) as well as those at AIIMS, JIPMER, central universities, deemed universities and ESIC institutions. Seat allotment processing took place on 9 and 10 September, Careers360 reported, with a provisional list released on 10 September before the final result on Friday.
Reporting window and allotment rules
Candidates who have been allotted a seat in Round 2 must report to their allotted college between 12 and 18 September 2026 to complete admission formalities, both reports said. Medical colleges will verify admission data on 19 September, according to Careers360.
Students are advised to carry the allotment letter, NEET admit card and scorecard, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, category and identity documents, and the required fee. Those who fail to report within the window forfeit the seat.
MCC allots seats based on NEET rank, the choices filled and locked during counselling, category and seat availability. Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 and opted for an upgrade were considered afresh in Round 2; if a better choice was allotted, the Round 1 seat is automatically cancelled.
Round 3 and stray vacancy
Matrix Education reported that Round 3 of NEET 2026 counselling is scheduled between 10 and 18 September, with the stray vacancy round expected between 28 September and 3 October. Careers360 said the exact Round 3 timeline had not yet been detailed by MCC, so candidates should check the official schedule on mcc.nic.in before planning.
Seats that remain vacant after Round 2, including those surrendered or not joined, are added to the Round 3 seat matrix. Candidates who have not been allotted a seat, or who are not satisfied with their allotment and have not joined, will be eligible for the next round, subject to MCC's rules on resignation and forfeiture.
What this means for state counselling
State counselling authorities run parallel processes for the 85 per cent state quota. Candidates holding an AIQ seat from Round 2 who wish to switch to a state-quota college must be careful about the deadlines; MCC's rules require that a candidate who joins a Round 2 seat cannot resign it to take part in later rounds without penalties.
What happens next
The immediate priority for allotted candidates is physical reporting at the college by 18 September. MCC is expected to publish the Round 3 registration and choice-filling schedule, along with the updated seat matrix, once the Round 2 joining data is verified on 19 September.
